Treyson Lee Sharp, a 22-year-old man from Browning, Montana, shot and killed a woman on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation on December 28, 2024. The incident occurred at Sharp’s family home, where he had invited the victim, Jane Doe, for dinner. After dinner, they went to his bedroom, where Sharp showed Doe his Christmas presents, including a pair of .357 revolvers. While playing with the firearms, Sharp pointed the revolver at Doe and discharged it, striking her in the neck.

Sharp immediately called for help, and his family members responded. One of them called 911, and another provided medical aid to Doe, but she died at the scene. Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, ATF, and Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services, investigated the incident and recovered four firearms from the scene.

The investigation revealed that the bullet that killed Doe was fired from one of the .357 revolvers. Sharp pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in October 2025 and was sentenced to 24 months in prison, followed by 2 years of supervised release. The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, with U.S. District Judge William W. Mercer presiding.

The sentence reflects the seriousness of the crime, which was a result of Sharp’s reckless behavior with firearms. The incident highlights the importance of handling firearms safely and the devastating consequences of negligence.
