A 12-year-old boy is dead, and a Bronx man is facing federal charges, after a fatal fentanyl poisoning in the Bronx on June 28, 2022. Aristides Cabrera, aka ‘Buddha’, is accused of dealing the deadly drugs that killed the young boy. Cabrera, who was already serving state sentences for firearm and drug crimes, has been brought into federal custody to face the new charges.
The indictment alleges that Cabrera used, carried, and possessed firearms in connection with his drug trafficking crimes. U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton stated that Cabrera’s alleged drug trafficking resulted in the tragic death of the 12-year-old boy and exposed others to the same life-threatening poison.
Cabrera will be presented before U.S. Magistrate Jennifer E. Willis, and the case is assigned to U.S. District Judge J. Paul Oetken. The charges are the result of a joint investigation by the DEA, NYPD, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.
The case highlights the devastating consequences of fentanyl trafficking and the importance of holding dealers accountable. As U.S. Attorney Clayton stated, ‘Fentanyl kills. It kills children. If you deal fentanyl, you are dealing death.’ The women and men of the SDNY, the DEA, the NYPD, and all New York law enforcement partners will continue to work together to hold dealers of death accountable.
