PITTSBURGH, PA – A depraved act of predation culminated in a guilty plea today as Robert Fike, 50, of Tampa, Florida, admitted to sending obscene and disturbing packages to a minor female in Western Pennsylvania. The details, confirmed by federal prosecutors, are as sickening as they are criminal.
Fike appeared before United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab and pleaded guilty to two counts of transferring obscene material to a minor. According to court documents, in January and February of 2019, Fike mailed packages containing socks and leggings contaminated with his semen, along with letters filled with graphic, sexually explicit content addressed to the victim, identified as “Minor A.” Laboratory testing unequivocally confirmed the presence of Fike’s biological material.
United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung’s office announced the plea, a victory in a case that demanded swift and decisive action. The investigation, a collaborative effort between the United States Postal Inspection Service, the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, and the Penn Township Police Department, uncovered the full extent of Fike’s twisted correspondence. Authorities say the packages were sent across state lines with calculated intent to exploit and traumatize the young victim.
Judge Schwab has scheduled sentencing for April 5, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. Fike faces a maximum total sentence of 20 years in prison, a $500,000 fine, or both. The actual sentence will be determined based on the severity of the offenses and Fike’s criminal history, as dictated by Federal Sentencing Guidelines. The court has already ordered Fike to remain detained pending sentencing, a necessary step to ensure public safety and prevent further harm.
Assistant United States Attorney Heidi M. Grogan is leading the prosecution, determined to secure a just outcome for the victim and send a clear message that such predatory behavior will not be tolerated. This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 to combat the escalating epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Project Safe Childhood brings together federal, state, and local resources to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those who prey on children, and to rescue victims.
