SIOUX CITY, IA – Alan Eugene Beier, 61, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, is headed to federal prison after admitting to running a small-time meth operation in Northern Iowa. Beier was sentenced on August 19, 2025, in federal court in Sioux City, receiving 42 months behind bars and three years of supervised release. Forget parole – in the federal system, you serve the time.
The bust went down September 14, 2024, when a Clear Lake Police Department officer responded to a complaint about a motorcycle operating with a dim headlight and no taillights. It wasn’t just a lighting violation. The officer pulled over Beier, and a subsequent search of both Beier and the bike turned up a significant haul: $864 in cash, 10 grams of cocaine, 82 grams of marijuana, and a hefty 235 grams of methamphetamine. That’s enough to put a serious dent in the local supply.
According to court documents, Beier confessed to a cross-state drug run, purchasing the methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana for $2,600 in Minnesota. He wasn’t holding it for personal use. Beier admitted his plan was to peddle the methamphetamine to buyers throughout Northern Iowa, turning a profit on someone else’s addiction. The evidence presented at the plea and sentencing hearings left little doubt about his intent.
United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand handed down the sentence, making it clear that drug trafficking carries serious consequences. Beier is currently in the custody of the United States Marshal, awaiting transfer to a federal correctional facility. He’ll have plenty of time to reflect on his choices.
The investigation was spearheaded by the Clear Lake Police Department, demonstrating the effectiveness of local and federal cooperation in tackling drug crime. Assistant United States Attorneys Kevin C. Fletcher and Kraig R. Hamit prosecuted the case, ensuring Beier faced justice. This isn’t just about one arrest; it’s a message to anyone thinking of bringing poison into our communities.
