Fort Dodge Meth Dealer Heads to Federal Prison

SIOUX CITY, IA – Alan Eugene Beier, 61, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, is trading the Iowa countryside for a federal prison cell after being sentenced August 19, 2025, for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The case, born from a routine traffic stop, exposes the relentless flow of narcotics through the Hawkeye State.

The trouble began September 14, 2024, when a Clear Lake Police Department officer responded to a complaint about a motorcycle operating with a dim headlight and no taillights. What started as a simple traffic violation quickly spiraled into a major drug bust. Beier was initially arrested for driving infractions, but a subsequent search of both Beier and his motorcycle revealed a shocking cache: $864 in cash, 10 grams of cocaine, 82 grams of marijuana, and a hefty 235 grams of methamphetamine.

Federal prosecutors laid out the evidence in court, revealing Beier had traveled to Minnesota and purchased the combined drugs for $2,600. He wasn’t holding onto these substances for personal use; Beier admitted he intended to peddle the methamphetamine to buyers across Northern Iowa, profiting from the misery of addiction. The scale of his operation suggests a calculated effort to exploit vulnerable communities.

United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand handed down a 42-month prison sentence, followed by three years of supervised release. Forget any illusions of early release – there’s no parole in the federal system. Beier is currently in the custody of the United States Marshals, awaiting transfer to a designated federal facility. This isn’t a slap on the wrist, but whether it’s enough to deter others remains to be seen.

The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Clear Lake Police Department and the Department of Justice, with Assistant United States Attorneys Kevin C. Fletcher and Kraig R. Hamit leading the prosecution. They built a solid case, demonstrating Beier’s clear intent to profit from the distribution of a highly dangerous and addictive substance. This case underscores the importance of interagency cooperation in tackling drug trafficking at the federal level.
