Fort Worth Man Gets 25 Years for Pharmacy Heist Spree

Dion Clark, 36, of Fort Worth, Texas, is locked up for 25 years after pleading guilty to orchestrating a violent pharmacy heist that reeked of desperation and danger. The sentence, handed down yesterday by U.S. District Judge John McBryde, puts an end to a crime spree that targeted a Walgreens in Burleson and left employees bound and terrified.

On April 9, 2016, Clark and three co-defendants—Darrien Jefferson, aka “Smoke,” Nicholas Evans, aka “Nico,” and Kenneth Sauls, aka “Smurf”—struck the Walgreens at 833 South Wilshire Blvd. Clark stayed behind as the getaway driver while the others stormed inside, guns drawn. They zip-tied employees, ransacked the store, and made off with narcotics, cash, cigarettes, and roughly 150 booklets of stamps.

Charged with conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery and using, carrying, and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, Clark admitted his role in the federal case in August 2017. The firearm count alone carried a mandatory minimum, sealing his fate with decades behind bars. The robbery wasn’t just about cash—it was a calculated theft of controlled substances, feeding the underground drug trade.

Jefferson, Evans, and Sauls were prosecuted separately and previously sentenced by U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor. While their individual penalties weren’t detailed in court records released today, their coordinated assault underscores a pattern of organized, armed pharmacy thefts plaguing the region.

The FBI led the investigation, peeling back the layers of the conspiracy with forensic precision. Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan Fahey, known for her relentless pursuit of violent offenders, handled the prosecution, ensuring Clark faced the full weight of federal law.

This case sends a message: robbing pharmacies at gunpoint doesn’t just endanger lives—it triggers maximum federal penalties. For Dion Clark, the high-stakes gamble ended in a 25-year sentence, buried deep in the federal prison system.
