Fredy Herney Nieto-Marin Gets 15 Years for Heroin Haul

Fredy Herney Nieto-Marin, a 37-year-old Colombian citizen and illegal alien residing in Revere, Massachusetts, was sentenced to 15 years and 8 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute heroin. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Carlos E. Mendoza in Orlando, Florida, marks the end of a high-stakes drug run that unraveled mid-transit.

Nieto-Marin pleaded guilty on January 19, 2016, after federal agents intercepted him returning to Massachusetts following a prior drug transaction worth $45,000. What should’ve been a clean exit turned fatal to his operation when he met with a confidential source (CS) working directly for the Drug Enforcement Administration.

During that fateful meeting, Nieto-Marin made a fatal miscalculation—he revealed to the CS that a significant quantity of heroin was hidden inside his vehicle. The CS alerted authorities, and a police canine unit quickly zeroed in on a concealed compartment in the car, recovering approximately 453 grams of high-purity heroin.

The bust exposed a mobile drug pipeline stretching across state lines, with Nieto-Marin acting as a key courier. His status as an undocumented immigrant adds another layer to the federal case, ensuring that upon completion of his sentence, he will face immediate deportation proceedings.

This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, whose use of a confidential source allowed them to dismantle a trafficking effort before the drugs flooded city streets. Prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Vincent S. Chiu, who emphasized the severity of cross-border drug operations.
