Gamret Gets 36 Months for Child Porn

PITTSBURGH, PA – Matthew Lawrence Gamret, 28, of Allegheny County, is headed to federal prison after being sentenced today for possessing depraved material depicting the sexual exploitation of children. The sentence, handed down by Senior United States District Judge Gustave Diamond, reflects the gravity of his crimes and aims to protect vulnerable victims.

Gamret received 36 months of imprisonment, followed by a lengthy 15 years of supervised release. The conviction stems from evidence presented to the court revealing that on January 16, 2012, Gamret possessed a cache of disturbing visual depictions – images and video files – that showcased the sexual abuse of minors. The files, stored as computer graphics, were damning proof of his involvement in this heinous activity.

U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton, announcing the sentence, made it clear that the Department of Justice will relentlessly pursue those who prey on children. “The possession of this material is a particularly vile offense,” a source close to the investigation stated, “and we will continue to dedicate resources to bringing these predators to justice.”

Assistant United States Attorney Jessica Lieber Smolar skillfully prosecuted the case, meticulously building a case based on the digital evidence recovered. The investigation was a joint effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pennsylvania State Police, highlighting the crucial collaboration between federal and state law enforcement agencies in combating child exploitation.

This prosecution falls under the umbrella of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice. The project’s core mission is to dismantle networks involved in the sexual exploitation and abuse of children, identifying and rescuing victims while holding perpetrators accountable. The program pools resources from across all levels of government to achieve these goals.

Anyone with information regarding child exploitation is urged to contact the FBI or their local law enforcement agency.
