Gastonia Heroin Dealer Denson Admits to Federal Crime

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Another dealer pushing poison onto the streets of West Virginia has fallen. Adam Denson, 28, of Gastonia, North Carolina, admitted in federal court today to distributing heroin, a crime that’s tearing apart communities across the Southern District. The guilty plea is a small victory in a relentless war against the flood of narcotics crippling the state.

According to court documents, Denson knowingly peddled heroin to a confidential informant on May 14, 2015, at Little Page Terrace in Charleston. This wasn’t a one-time deal. The feds say Denson continued his illicit business, selling heroin to the same informant on three additional occasions throughout May 2015. The details, though sparse, paint a picture of a calculated operator, knowingly fueling addiction for profit.

United States Attorney Carol Casto announced the guilty plea, a necessary step toward accountability. But accountability doesn’t bring back lives lost or mend broken families. It’s a stark reminder that the source of this poison often lies outside state lines, with dealers like Denson willing to travel and exploit vulnerable populations.

Denson now faces the possibility of a lengthy prison sentence. He’s looking at up to 20 years behind federal bars when he’s sentenced on January 23, 2017. Whether that’s enough to deter others remains to be seen, but the U.S. Attorney’s Office is sending a clear message: dealing heroin in the Southern District of West Virginia carries serious consequences.

The investigation was spearheaded by the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team, a multi-agency task force working to dismantle drug trafficking operations. Assistant United States Attorney Haley Bunn is prosecuting the case before United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston. The relentless work of these teams is vital, but they are often stretched thin, battling an epidemic fueled by greed and indifference.

This case is part of a broader, ongoing initiative by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia to aggressively target the sale and misuse of prescription drugs and heroin. The office, alongside federal, state, and local law enforcement, vows to continue shutting down illegal drug markets and stemming the tide of opiates flooding communities.
