Georgia Bank Robbers Get Decades Behind Bars

LIZZELLA & BONAIRE, GA – Two Georgia men are facing decades in federal prison after being convicted of a string of brazen armed bank robberies that terrorized Middle Georgia in 2010. Kerivonte Davis, 26 of Wrightsville, and Jimmy Brown, 25 of Fort Valley, received their sentences on February 27, 2013, in the United States District Court, Macon Division, before Judge C. Ashley Royal.

The pair, along with a third accomplice Gregory Green, 27 of Byron, targeted Atlantic Southern Bank branches. On May 28, 2010, the trio stormed the Lizella branch, brandishing firearms and forcing employees to the ground. They absconded with over $13,000.00. Less than seven months later, on December 16, 2010, Davis and Green again hit an Atlantic Southern Bank – this time in Bonaire – making off with more than $23,000.00. Both robberies were committed while wearing masks and armed with firearms.

Kerivonte Davis received a crushing 188-month imprisonment sentence for two counts of Armed Bank Robbery, followed by a consecutive 84-month sentence for Brandishing a Firearm During an Armed Bank Robbery, totaling a staggering 272 months behind bars. Jimmy Brown, while receiving a shorter sentence than Davis, still faces a substantial 63 months for Armed Bank Robbery and an additional 84 months for the firearm charge, for a combined 147 months in prison. Green was previously sentenced to 113 months by Judge Royal.

The charges against the defendants stem from violations of Title 18 United States Code, Sections 2113(a) and (d) for Armed Bank Robbery, and 924(c)(1)(A)(i) and (ii) for Brandishing a Firearm During a Crime of Violence. Both Davis and Brown entered guilty pleas in October and November of 2012, respectively, acknowledging their roles in the violent crimes.

United States Attorney Michael J. Moore didn’t mince words regarding the severity of the crimes. “It is an act of pure cowardice to hide behind a mask and a gun while terrorizing innocent people,” Moore stated. “I will not tolerate it, and my office will spare no resource in making sure that this type of crime is met with the full force of the law.”

The case was a collaborative effort, spearheaded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorneys Verda M. Colvin and Jennifer Kolman successfully prosecuted the case for the Government. For further information, contact Sue McKinney, Public Affairs Specialist, at 478-621-2602.
