Gillette Arrested for Murder

A brutal shooting on the Fort Berthold Reservation has led to the arrest of Christopher Lewis Gillette, a 34-year-old man from Twin Buttes, ND. United States Attorney Drew Wrigley announced that a federal grand jury has indicted Gillette for felony Second Degree Murder; Assault with Dangerous Weapon; Assault with Intent to Commit Murder; Assault with Dangerous Weapon; Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury; and Use of Firearm in Relation to Felony Crime of Violence.

The indictment alleges that on August 14, 2020, Gillette shot two individuals at a residence on the Fort Berthold Reservation, killing one adult male and critically wounding the other. The victims, whose names have not been released, were allegedly targeted by Gillette in a violent and deadly attack.

The investigation into the shooting was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with the United States Attorney’s office prosecuting the case. Assistant United States Attorney Eric Lunberg has been assigned to the case, and will work to prove Gillette’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.

Grand jury Indictments are allegations and are not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until he is proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt at trial. However, the severity of the charges against Gillette suggests a lengthy and complex trial process.

The Fort Berthold Reservation has been the site of several violent crimes in recent years, and the shooting has sent shockwaves through the community. Residents are calling for increased security measures and greater support for law enforcement efforts to combat violent crime in the area.

The case against Gillette is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the trial approaches. For now, the people of Twin Buttes and the Fort Berthold Reservation are left to grapple with the aftermath of a senseless and tragic crime. Gillette faces a lengthy prison sentence if convicted of the charges against him.

In a statement, United States Attorney Drew Wrigley emphasized the importance of holding perpetrators of violent crime accountable for their actions. The prosecution of Gillette is a step towards justice for the victims and their families, and a warning to others who would commit similar crimes.
