Gun Bust

⏱ 2 min read

Davante Jamar Moore, a 34-year-old felon from Richland County, was busted with a gun during a traffic stop in Columbia, SC, on March 29, 2024. Moore, who was driving solo, was pulled over by Columbia Police Department officers, who then found a loaded firearm, marijuana, and other paraphernalia in his vehicle. Moore’s prior convictions for strong arm robbery and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature prohibit him from possessing firearms.

When officers searched the vehicle, they located a yellow backpack with a plastic bag containing marijuana, various bags, a scale, container with white powder inside, and a loaded firearm. A CPD K9 had alerted to the scent of narcotics during the stop, leading to the search.

Moore faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in federal prison, a fine of up to $250,000, restitution, and three years of supervision. United States District Judge Mary Geiger Lewis accepted the guilty plea and will sentence Moore after receiving and reviewing a sentencing report prepared by the U.S. Probation Office.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that aims to combat violent crime and protect communities from perpetrators. The investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the City of Columbia Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney William K. Witherspoon prosecuting the case.
