Haydock Faces 75 Years for Cedar Rapids Bank Heists

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – Jeffrey Haydock, 57, of Watertown, Wisconsin, is facing a potential lifetime behind bars after being indicted on three counts of bank robbery stemming from a string of heists in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The charges, filed April 23, 2014, in United States District Court, finally bring a reckoning for crimes committed years ago.

According to the indictment, Haydock allegedly robbed the First Federal Credit Union in Cedar Rapids not once, but twice – first on or about July 30, 2009, and again on or about November 12, 2009. If that wasn’t enough, he’s also accused of hitting the Linn Area Credit Union in Cedar Rapids on or about February 17, 2010. The FBI and Cedar Rapids PD have been building their case for years, finally bringing it to fruition.

The feds aren’t messing around. If convicted on all three counts, Haydock is looking at a maximum sentence of seventy-five years’ imprisonment. That’s not all; he also faces a hefty $750,000 fine, $300 in special assessments, and a potential fifteen years of supervised release *after* serving his time. This isn’t a slap on the wrist – it’s a serious attempt to keep a repeat offender off the streets.

Haydock made his initial appearance in federal court today in Cedar Rapids, but don’t expect him to be walking free anytime soon. A judge ordered him held without bond, signaling the court’s view of him as a flight risk. His next court date, where a trial date will be set, is scheduled for July 21, 2014.

Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Morfitt is prosecuting the case, working closely with investigators from the Cedar Rapids Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. They’ve spent years piecing together the evidence, and now it’s up to the court to decide Haydock’s fate.

It’s crucial to remember that an indictment is simply an accusation. Haydock is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
