Honduran Man Sentenced for Illegal Re-entry

Gulfport, Miss. – A 39-year-old Honduran man has been sentenced to 5 years in federal prison for the crime of Unlawful Re-entry By a Removed Alien Previously Convicted of a Felony.

Oscar Alfredo Burgon-Urrea was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Louis Guirola, Jr. and will face 3 years of supervised release upon completion of his prison term, as announced by U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst and David Rivera, Field Office Director of Enforcement and Removal Operations for the Department of Homeland Security.

Burgon-Urrea was previously convicted in the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas, Del Rio Division, of the offense of Re-entry by a Deported Alien, a felony, in 2011.

He had been lawfully removed from the United States in 2005, but had illegally re-entered the country on six subsequent occasions, before being arrested by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer in 2017 at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center for public drunkenness.

Further investigation revealed that Burgon-Urrea had been known by multiple variations of his name, including Oscar Alfredo Burgos-Urrea, Oscar Alredo Burgos Ureea, Oscar Alfredo Burgos, Oscar Burgos, and Oscar Alfredo.

U.S. Attorney Hurst praised the cooperation exhibited by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Moss Point Police Department, and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department in bringing the case to a successful conclusion.

Assistant United States Attorney Stan Harris was the prosecutor for the case.

Burgon-Urrea could face a separate term of imprisonment if he were to return to the United States after removal and during the term of his supervised release, officials warned.
