ALBUQUERQUE – A 26-year-old man from Houston has been locked up in a New Mexico federal court for his role in a double homicide in Clovis, New Mexico.
Alek Isaiah Collins, 26, made a court appearance this morning for arraignment on an indictment charging him with kidnapping of a minor and discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, according to the Department of Justice. Collins was detained pending trial, which has not yet been scheduled.
The indictment stems from a May 3, 2024, incident in which two women were found dead and a child wounded at a park in Clovis. A 10-month-old baby was initially missing, but was later safely recovered.
According to court documents, Collins rented a maroon Honda that was linked to the crime scene. He was tracked to Abilene, Texas, where he allegedly carjacked an Uber driver. Police pursued and arrested Collins, recovering the missing child.
Collins has no relation to the child and does not have legal custody of the child. The FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated the case with assistance from multiple law enforcement agencies, including the New Mexico State Police and the Abilene Texas Police Department.
U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, made the announcement today. Assistant United States Attorneys Jaymie L. Roybal and Joseph Spindle are prosecuting the case.
An indictment is merely an allegation, and Collins is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
The FBI would like to thank all the law enforcement agencies that assisted in this case for their tireless efforts in bringing Collins to justice.
