United States Attorney Richard W. Moore has announced that a federal jury in Mobile, Alabama has found Mack Doak, 51, and his wife Jaycee Doak, 41, guilty on all charges stemming from a child sex abuse case that spanned multiple states.
The trial, which began on May 20, 2019, concluded three days later with the jury delivering its verdict. The couple is set to be sentenced on August 30, 2019. Mack Doak faces a mandatory minimum sentence of thirty years in prison and a maximum life term, while Jaycee Doak faces a mandatory minimum of ten years and a potential life sentence.
The charges against the defendants included violating 18 U.S.C. § 2423(a), which criminalizes the transportation of minors across state lines with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, and Mack Doak also faced three counts of violating 18 U.S.C. § 2241(c), a statute that prohibits crossing state lines to engage in sexual acts with children under twelve.
The evidence presented at trial revealed that the defendants had abused three child victims over several years. The victims testified that they were subjected to sexual abuse by Mack Doak in Texas, Florida, and Alabama, and that Jaycee Doak was both physically and verbally abusive and attempted to cover up the abuse. Jaycee Doak was also accused of urging a witness not to disclose the abuse and failing to take action to report or seek medical attention for one of the victims.
Mack Doak’s sexual abuse began in Rosharon, Texas in 2012, with the couple relocating multiple times as the abuse continued. Testimony indicated that Mack Doak would often call a victim into his bedroom and play loud music after the incidents, and Jaycee Doak’s physical and verbal abuse intensified following their move to Monroeville, Alabama.
The case came to light in February 2018 when the Monroeville Police Department received information about the sexual abuse. The defendants were arrested on state charges for rape, incest, and sexual abuse and were later indicted by a federal grand jury in the Southern District of Alabama.
