New York Attorney General Letitia James delivered a scathing rebuke to the Trump administration’s decision to cut Title X funding for reproductive healthcare providers. ‘Cutting funding for health care providers that offer reproductive care to millions of people across the country is cruel and shameful,’ James stated, emphasizing the reliance of low-income, rural, and minority communities on these services.
Established in 1970, the Title X program has been instrumental in providing family planning and sexual and reproductive health care to low-income Americans. The cuts come as a blow to healthcare providers that offer crucial services like cancer screenings, affordable birth control, and pregnancy testing.
Attorney General James has been a steadfast advocate for reproductive healthcare access, leading successful legal battles against anti-abortion groups and pushing for expanded reproductive rights. Most recently, she won a lawsuit against Red Rose Rescue for disrupting reproductive health clinics, filed an amicus brief in support of Medicaid recipients’ right to choose their own health care providers, and urged the U.S. Supreme Court to maintain access to emergency abortion care.
In a series of legal actions over the past year, James has fought for reproductive rights, including filing an amicus brief in support of mifepristone access, suing anti-abortion groups for promoting unproven treatments, and advocating for Congress to expand access to reproductive health services.
James’ commitment to reproductive healthcare has made her a national leader in the fight against funding cuts that disproportionately affect vulnerable populations. ‘Reproductive health care is a right,’ she concluded. ‘Every individual should be able to access this care without obstacles.’
