Jasper Man Gets Nine Years for Meth Trafficking

JASPER, Ala. – Shannon Wayne Herron, 50, of Jasper, Alabama, is headed to federal prison for nearly a decade after a significant methamphetamine bust at his residence. Herron was sentenced to 108 months – nine years – by U.S. District Court Judge Anna M. Manasco, U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona announced today.

The sentence comes after Herron pleaded guilty in February to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The case originated with a search warrant executed November 1, 2023, by detectives with the Jasper Police Department Narcotics Unit. They weren’t looking for a knitting circle.

What they found at Herron’s Jasper home was a substantial drug operation. Detectives seized 366 grams of *pure* methamphetamine, along with marijuana. But it wasn’t just the drugs. Officers also recovered a digital scale – standard for weighing out product – and a ledger meticulously detailing names paired with corresponding dollar amounts. This wasn’t a personal stash; this was a business.

The search also turned up four cell phones, presumably used to coordinate deals, and approximately $1,800 in cash – the profits of a dirty trade. The evidence painted a clear picture of Herron’s involvement in the distribution of methamphetamine within Walker County and potentially beyond.

The investigation was a joint effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Jasper Police Department Narcotics Unit. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristy Peoples handled the prosecution, building a solid case that led to Herron’s guilty plea and subsequent sentencing. Nine years is a significant blow to Herron’s operation, and a clear message that drug trafficking won’t be tolerated in Alabama.
