ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In a stunning turn of events during the violent protests that followed the death of Daniel Prude in Rochester, Kyle Bradley Davis, 32, has been charged with civil disorder for his alleged role in an attack on law enforcement officers with a laser.
Davis is accused of pointing a green laser at three RPD officers and four NYSP Troopers on September 8, 2020, temporarily blinding them and impeding their ability to perform their duties. The incident occurred as hundreds of protesters gathered in front of the Rochester Police Department headquarters.
Following the attack, Davis fled the scene but was quickly apprehended by officers who sustained injuries during the pursuit. One officer suffered a fractured orbital bone and laceration under his left eye, requiring hospital treatment and seven stitches.
The charges against Davis carry a maximum penalty of five years in prison. U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy Jr. emphasized that those who seek to harm law enforcement with dangerous devices will face federal prosecution, underscoring the seriousness of the crime.
