Life for Gas Murder

⏱ 2 min read

Chihean Jones, a 41-year-old Philadelphia man, was sentenced to life in prison for murdering a gas station attendant during an armed robbery in Philadelphia, PA. On January 17, 2023, Jones and his accomplices targeted a gas station on the 7100 block of Torresdale Avenue, planning to rob it. However, when the attendant failed to exit the store, Jones shot and killed him. Jones was also convicted of two commercial robberies in the city, including a cell phone store robbery on August 22, 2022.

Jones was found guilty on all counts, including two counts of robbery interfering with interstate commerce, murder in the course of using and carrying a firearm, and using and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. The conviction came after a federal jury trial in November last year.

The sentencing, handed down by United States District Judge Kelley Brisbon Hodge, included life in prison for the murder and 20 years each for the robberies, to be served concurrently. Jones’ actions were part of a larger pattern of violent crime in Philadelphia, and his conviction and sentencing serve as a reminder of the severe consequences for such acts.

The case was investigated by federal authorities, including the FBI and ATF, and was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The successful prosecution and sentencing of Jones demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement to combating violent crime and seeking justice for victims and their families.
