MS-13 Hitman Gets Life for Snitch Execution

Jose Henry Hernandez-Garcia will spend the rest of his life in federal prison after being convicted of participating in a brutal MS-13 racketeering conspiracy that culminated in the execution of a man suspected of cooperating with the feds. The sentence, handed down this week, sends a clear message: betraying the gang isn’t just a risk, it’s a death sentence.

Hernandez-Garcia wasn’t acting alone. Fellow MS-13 members Jose Domingo Ordonez-Zometa and Jose Rafael Ortega-Ayala were also found guilty in the same case, linked directly to the planned murder and subsequent cover-up. The victim, whose identity is being withheld to protect ongoing investigations, had been providing crucial intelligence on MS-13’s operations, making him a target.

Federal prosecutors laid out a disturbing picture of MS-13’s inner workings, detailing how the gang operates as a criminal enterprise, enforcing its rules through violence and intimidation. The murder wasn’t a spontaneous act; it was a calculated hit, ordered to silence the informant and send a message to others considering cooperation. The subsequent attempts to destroy evidence – cleaning the scene, disposing of weapons – showed the depth of their desperation to avoid accountability.

MS-13, or Mara Salvatrucha, remains one of the most dangerous street gangs in the United States, with deep roots in El Salvador and other Central American nations. The gang thrives on a mix of desperation and ruthlessness, recruiting heavily from immigrant communities struggling with poverty and displacement. The Los Ghettos Criminales Salvatruchas clique, to which Hernandez-Garcia belonged, is known for its particularly violent tendencies.

This case was a major win for the Project Safe Neighborhoods program and the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF). These initiatives, focused on targeting the most violent offenders and dismantling criminal networks, are critical in combating the growing threat of gangs like MS-13. OCDETF specifically focuses on disrupting drug trafficking, but the investigation quickly expanded to encompass the full scope of MS-13’s criminal activities, including extortion and murder.

Ordonez-Zometa is already serving a life sentence for a prior conviction, meaning this verdict simply adds to his existing punishment. The feds aren’t finished, though. They’re continuing to investigate other members of the Los Ghettos Criminales Salvatruchas clique and other MS-13 factions, aiming to cripple the gang’s operations and bring more killers to justice. The streets are a little safer, but the war against MS-13 is far from over.
