Maine Man Gets 5 Years for Heroin & Fentanyl Run

CONCORD, NH – Edson Wilson, 43, of Augusta, Maine, is headed to federal prison for five years after admitting to running a shipment of heroin and fentanyl into New Hampshire. U.S. Attorney Scott W. Murray announced the 60-month sentence today, a stark reminder that the feds are watching the I-95 corridor.

The bust went down June 15, 2019, when a New Hampshire State Trooper pulled over the vehicle Wilson was riding in on I-95 North. A routine traffic stop quickly turned into a drug investigation when the trooper noticed signs of drug use amongst the vehicle’s occupants. Conflicting stories about their destination added to the suspicion, leading to a vehicle search.

Under Wilson’s seat, troopers discovered a vacuum-sealed package containing roughly 198 grams of a deadly combination of heroin and fentanyl. That’s enough poison to kill a lot of people. Wilson didn’t bother denying his role, confessing to purchasing the drugs earlier that day with the clear intention of peddling at least half of it for profit.

Wilson pleaded guilty on May 6, 2020, likely hoping for a lighter sentence. It didn’t happen. U.S. Attorney Murray was blunt in his assessment: “Interstate 95 is a conduit for illegal drugs being transported into Northern New England,” he stated. “Thanks to alert enforcement action by New Hampshire State Police, this shipment was stopped before it could be distributed and the responsible party was brought to justice.”

This wasn’t a solo operation, though Wilson is taking the full hit. The New Hampshire State Police, with assistance from the Greenland Police Department, conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles L. Rombeau prosecuted the case, ensuring Wilson faced the full weight of the law. The 60-month sentence is a clear message to anyone else considering using I-95 as a drug pipeline.

Murray added a final warning: “This 60 month prison term should serve as a warning to traffickers who plan to transport heroin and fentanyl into New Hampshire and Maine.” The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on the ongoing battle against the flood of deadly narcotics into the region.
