Jeremey A. Phillips, Methamphetamine Manufacturing Conspiracy, IL, …

BENTON, IL – A Williamson County man is facing serious federal charges after being indicted on methamphetamine-related offenses, federal authorities announced today. Jeremey A. Phillips, also known as “Jeremy Phillips,” 28, of Marion, Illinois, is accused of playing a key role in a conspiracy to manufacture the deadly drug.

The indictment, handed down on March 3, 2015, charges Phillips with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and possession of pseudoephedrine knowing it would be used for illicit drug production. Federal prosecutors allege the criminal activity spanned from 2012 to February 2015, stretching across Williamson, Jackson, and Jefferson Counties – a clear indication of a widespread operation.

Phillips made his initial appearance in federal court in Benton on March 9, 2015, and is currently being held without bond. A detention hearing was scheduled for March 10, 2015, to determine if he will remain jailed while awaiting trial. The Southern Illinois Enforcement Group and Marion Police Department have been conducting an ongoing investigation into the case.

If convicted, Phillips could face up to 20 years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. He also faces a potential $1,000,000 fine – a hefty penalty for flooding Southern Illinois with methamphetamine. An indictment is a formal accusation, and Phillips is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The investigation highlights the persistent problem of methamphetamine production and distribution in the region. Authorities have been cracking down on “shake and bake” methods and larger-scale labs, but the supply continues to flow. The use of pseudoephedrine, a key ingredient found in many over-the-counter cold medications, remains a central issue in these cases.

Assistant United States Attorney Amanda A. Robertson is assigned to prosecute the case. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and report on the proceedings as they unfold. This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of methamphetamine and the commitment of law enforcement to dismantle these criminal networks.
