Melissa Torres Sentenced to 25 Years for Child Pornography

A Shelbyville woman has been slammed with a 25-year federal prison sentence after admitting she produced and distributed graphic child pornography involving two children under the age of 10. Melissa Torres, 37, pleaded guilty to enticing a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of recording it, a crime that has now cost her decades of freedom.

On September 22, 2014, Torres forced the two young victims into sexually explicit acts and filmed the abuse, according to court documents. She later shared the video, triggering a chain of events that led to her arrest. The footage surfaced when an individual discovered it and immediately alerted law enforcement, sparking a joint investigation.

The Shelbyville Police Department launched the probe before handing the case over to federal authorities. The FBI and local police worked side by side to trace the video back to Torres, building a case that left little room for dispute. Digital forensics tied her directly to the creation and distribution of the material.

On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Gregory F. Van Tatenhove handed down the 25-year sentence, emphasizing the severity of the crimes. Torres must serve at least 85 percent of her term before becoming eligible for release. On top of that, she will face a lifetime of supervised release—meaning federal eyes will be on her every move for the rest of her life.

Kerry B. Harvey, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, stood with FBI Special Agent in Charge Amy Hess and Shelbyville Police Chief Danny Goodwin to confirm the sentencing. They called the crime heinous and praised the investigators who brought Torres to justice after years of legal proceedings.

Assistant U.S. Attorney David Marye prosecuted the case for the federal government. Torres’s conviction stands as a grim reminder: in the digital age, no image disappears, and no predator escapes scrutiny. The FBI and local agencies say they’re committed to hunting down every offender, one case at a time.
