Meth Kingpin Adam Michael Clodfelder Sentenced to 12.5 Years

GREENSBORO – In a shocking display of reckless disregard for human life, 24-year-old Asheboro native Adam Michael Clodfelder was sentenced to 151 months in federal prison for leading deputies on a 75-mile high-speed chase through Randolph and Chatham Counties.

According to court records, the chaos unfolded on September 3, 2023, when a deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office spotted Clodfelder speeding down Highway 220 with his headlights off. The deputy gave chase, but Clodfelder was no ordinary suspect – he was clocked at speeds of over 150 miles per hour, weaving in and out of lanes with reckless abandon.

Clodfelder’s high-speed antics finally came to an end when he lost control of his vehicle, crashing to a halt and leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. Deputies soon discovered a firearm, methamphetamine, a lock pick, and drug paraphernalia on his person – a veritable arsenal of illicit goods.

What’s more, Clodfelder had previously been convicted of a crime with a term of imprisonment exceeding one year, rendering him ineligible to possess a firearm. This glaring disregard for the law was just the tip of the iceberg, however – when authorities searched his vehicle, they found a haul of methamphetamine that would have made even the most seasoned dealer proud.

Clodfelder’s sentencing was handed down by the Honorable William L. Osteen, Jr., United States District Judge in the United States District Court for the MDNC. He pleaded guilty on January 3, 2024, to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, a violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and (b)(1)(C).

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, and the Asheboro Police Department. Special Assistant United States Attorney Mary Ann Courtney prosecuted the case, which is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) – a program dedicated to reducing violent crime and gun violence in our communities.
