Meth Kingpin Busted

⏱ 2 min read

A massive drug trafficking operation that flooded Northern West Virginia with methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine has been dismantled by federal authorities. Ryan Rasheed Shaw, a 29-year-old Philadelphia man, played a key role in the operation, managing the drug business in Morgantown and supplying local dealers with significant quantities of illicit substances. Shaw’s operation was responsible for nearly 3.2 kilograms of methamphetamine and 379 grams of fentanyl, posing a grave threat to public safety. The operation was led by Rodney Johnson in Philadelphia, who received an 188-month prison sentence in March 2025.

Shaw was sentenced to 240 months in prison for his role in the operation. The case was investigated by the Mon Metro Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative that includes the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and other local law enforcement agencies.

The task force’s efforts are part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations, protecting communities from violent crime, and combating illegal immigration. To date, all 24 defendants in the case have been convicted, and 18 defendants, including Shaw, have been sentenced.

The case highlights the extreme lethality of fentanyl, which has been designated as a weapon of mass destruction due to its grave threat to public safety. The sentence handed down to Shaw reflects the severity of the crime and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the scourge of drug trafficking in West Virginia and beyond.
