Juan Carlos Popoca, a 38-year-old meth trafficking ringleader from Tifton, Georgia, has been sentenced to 13 years in federal prison for his role in distributing hundreds of kilograms of methamphetamine and cocaine in Tift County. Popoca, who helped orchestrate the operation from behind prison bars, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine on December 17, 2025. U.S. Attorney William R. “Will” Keyes stated that those who traffic deadly and addictive drugs in the Middle District of Georgia will face swift and severe federal consequences. The sentence handed down to Popoca reflects the commitment of law enforcement agencies to pursue, prosecute, and remove the most dangerous offenders from the community.

The case highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies at every level to combat drug trafficking and protect communities. The GBI and other agencies remain committed to holding offenders accountable and protecting Georgia communities from the dangers of drug trafficking.
