Mexican Man Pleads Guilty to Reentering US After 8th Deportation

BOSTON – In a shocking turn of events, a Mexican man has pleaded guilty to reentering the United States after being deported eight times. Ramon Alfaro-Orona, 39, faces up to 10 years in prison for his crime.

According to the DOJ USAO, Alfaro-Orona was deported from the US on eight prior occasions, with the most recent being on Sept. 30, 2014. However, he managed to unlawfully reenter the country sometime after his deportation.

Alfaro-Orona’s latest stint in the US came to an end on Aug. 23, 2023, when he was taken into custody by immigration authorities following his arraignment in Leominster District Court for three counts of larceny by check over $1,200.

This is not the first time Alfaro-Orona has faced charges for reentry. He was convicted of the same crime twice before, in November 2013 and March 2014.

The charge of unlawful reentry of a deported alien carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. The defendant will be subject to deportation proceedings upon completion of an imposed sentence.

U.S. District Court Judge Margaret R. Guzman has scheduled sentencing for Aug. 5, 2024. Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and Todd M. Lyons, Field Office Director, Boston, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations made the announcement today. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian Sullivan of the Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.
