Mexican Man Sentenced to 90 Months for Methamphetamine Conspiracy

OMAHA, NE – In a major victory for law enforcement, Juan Tapia-Torres, 44, of Guadalupe Victoria Miramar, Mexico, was sentenced to 90 months in prison for his role in a massive methamphetamine conspiracy.

According to court documents, Tapia-Torres was involved in a sophisticated operation that dealt in large quantities of pure methamphetamine. The scope of his operation was staggering, with authorities seizing over 437 grams of methamphetamine in a single controlled buy.

On March 2, 2023, DEA agents conducted a controlled purchase of methamphetamine from Tapia-Torres, purchasing approximately 437.3 grams of pure methamphetamine. This was just the beginning of a larger operation that would eventually bring Tapia-Torres to justice.

As authorities continued to investigate, they uncovered even more evidence of Tapia-Torres’s involvement in the methamphetamine conspiracy. On March 14, 2023, a search warrant was executed on Tapia-Torres’s residence in Omaha, where agents discovered a staggering 3,966 grams of pure methamphetamine hidden in multiple packages inside the basement ceiling.

The investigation was a collaborative effort between the DEA and other law enforcement agencies. “This sentencing is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our agents and partners,” said a spokesperson for the DEA. “We will continue to work tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle the networks that bring these deadly substances into our communities.”

Tapia-Torres was sentenced by Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. on April 26, 2024. He will serve 90 months in prison, followed by a 5-year term of supervised release after his release. This sentence sends a clear message that those who engage in methamphetamine trafficking will face serious consequences.
