On a sweltering September afternoon in 1907, a group of Manchester’s dairy dealers gathered in city hall to discuss a matter of great importance: the price of milk. Behind closed doors, the Milk Producers Association voted to raise the price of milk from 23 cents to 32 and 34 cents for a quart can. Those living outside the eight-mile limit from the city would ask for 4 cents more per can, while those within the circle would receive 3 cents extra.
