ERIE, Pa. – Locksley Brian Millwood, 37, just added to his existing sentence. The inmate at the McKean Federal Correctional Institution in Bradford, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to an additional two months in jail after admitting to escaping custody last year. U.S. District Judge David S. Cercone delivered the sentence, which will run consecutively to the time Millwood is already serving – meaning on top of it.
The botched escape unfolded on August 21, 2013. Millwood made a run for it from the McKean Federal Prison Camp, but his freedom was short-lived. He was back in custody within hours, not due to a manhunt, but a traffic stop. Bradford Township Police Department officers pulled over the vehicle Millwood was traveling in for speeding.
It wasn’t a clever getaway. Millwood didn’t blend into the scenery, or attempt a disguise. He simply tried to outrun the system in a car, and got caught speeding. The irony isn’t lost on federal authorities, who swiftly connected him to the escape.
Assistant United States Attorney Christian A. Trabold handled the prosecution, presenting the evidence to the court that secured the conviction. While the escape itself wasn’t elaborate, the prosecution successfully argued for an additional penalty, highlighting the seriousness of attempting to evade lawful custody.
U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton publicly commended the officers at McKean Federal Correctional Institution for their initial response, and specifically acknowledged the Bradford Township Police Department for their quick thinking and effective traffic stop that ultimately led to Millwood’s recapture and conviction.
This case serves as a stark reminder: even a momentary lapse in judgment, a desperate attempt at freedom, can add significant time to an already lengthy sentence. Millwood’s two-month addition is a testament to that, and a warning to others considering a similar path.
