MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Bryan Wesley Edison, 32, of Carver, Minnesota, is facing sixteen federal counts of Animal Crushing, according to an indictment unsealed today. The charges stem from a horrifying operation where Edison allegedly filmed and profited from the systematic torture and killing of animals, broadcasting the depravity through pay-per-view YouTube channels.
Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson minced no words: “Animal crushing is not only sickening, it is a federal crime.” Thompson emphasized the broader implications, stating, “When someone takes pleasure in the torture of defenseless animals, it signals a deeper danger to our community. Especially in these troubled times, we will not allow these warning signs to go unchecked.”
The case highlights the reach of the 2019 PACT Act – the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act – which expanded the federal definition of animal cruelty to include acts like crushing, burning, and drowning. Authorities now recognize intentional animal torture as a potential indicator of violent tendencies and a threat to public safety. Edison’s operation, active since 2022, allegedly involved nearly 350 videos depicting unimaginable cruelty.
Investigators say Edison created elaborate, disturbing “sets” – playpens, bathtubs, showers – and subjected a range of animals to horrific abuse. Birds, hamsters, mice, guinea pigs, rabbits, lizards, reptiles, dogs, and even snapping turtles were allegedly victims. Some animals were costumed or placed in contrived scenarios before being subjected to prolonged torture, including impalement, crushing, drowning, suffocation, and being torn apart alive. Edison wasn’t just a sadist; he was a businessman of brutality.
Edison monetized his depravity through tiered YouTube memberships ranging from $0.99 to $99.99 a month. The highest tier offered “custom” videos, catering to the most twisted desires of paying subscribers. He actively promoted the most graphic content behind paywalls and employed “clickbait” tactics – titles like “slow death,” “shred,” “cracks head open,” and “kills mouse brutally” – to lure viewers. Edison’s commentary during the videos, filled with callous remarks like “Shredder, do your worst” and descriptions of the animals’ suffering, paints a chilling portrait of his alleged mindset.
YouTube eventually removed Edison’s channels, including “Prince’s Pet Planet” and “Prince’s Chomp Squad,” for repeated and severe policy violations. However, the damage was already done. “Animal crushing is an appalling abuse of power over vulnerable creatures,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge Alvin M. Winston Sr. “The FBI stands with our law enforcement partners to rigorously enforce the laws that prevent and punish such heinous acts of cruelty.” The investigation was conducted by the FBI, and the case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew D. Evans. It’s crucial to remember that an indictment is an allegation, and Edison is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
