Minnesota Sex Offender Sentenced for Failing to Register
A Minnesota man has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for failing to register as a sex offender, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Montana.
Jeremiah Robert Wiberg, 42, pleaded guilty in March 2025 to one count of failure to register as a sex offender.
Wiberg, a convicted sex offender, has been on federal supervised release for the past eight years. However, he has been revoked off supervised release multiple times. Following his most recent release from the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) in Louisiana on November 8, 2023, Wiberg failed to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) upon his arrival in Billings, Montana.
Instead of checking in with United States Probation, Wiberg traveled to Roundup, Montana, and left the state without registering. His whereabouts were unknown for several weeks. Law enforcement eventually received information that Wiberg was staying in Minnesota, where he was arrested on a federal warrant for violating his supervised release.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case, with the investigation conducted by the FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Probation Office, Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office, and Montana Division of Criminal Investigation.
U.S. District Judge Susan P. Watters presided over the case, sentencing Wiberg to 16 months in prison followed by 5 years of supervised release.
This is not the first time Wiberg has been in trouble for failing to register as a sex offender. His 2007 federal conviction for receipt of child pornography requires him to register under SORNA. The government alleged in court documents that Wiberg has a history of violating his supervised release, having been revoked multiple times.
Wiberg’s sentence serves as a reminder of the importance of registering as a sex offender, especially for those with a history of violating their supervised release.
The case highlights the need for law enforcement and the community to work together to keep track of sex offenders and prevent them from reoffending.
