Mobile Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Illegally Possessing Firearm

A Mobile man has been sentenced to 120 months in prison for possessing a firearm as a previously convicted felon, according to the Department of Justice USAO.

David Bailey, 40, was arrested by Mobile police on October 26, 2022, following the execution of a search warrant at his residence. During the search, a firearm was located on the couch in the front room, as well as powder cocaine, crack cocaine, marijuana, an ecstasy pill, and a bottle of promethazine syrup in various places throughout the residence.

Bailey admitted to ownership of the firearm after his arrest. He was subsequently charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and pled guilty to the charge.

United States District Court Judge Terry F. Moorer sentenced Bailey to 120 months in prison, followed by a 3-year term of supervised release. The sentence was handed down as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative, which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence in communities.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Mobile Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica S. Terrill prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.

The Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative was launched in 2021 as a violent crime reduction strategy. The program focuses on fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Alabama announced the sentence, marking another victory in the fight against gun violence in the region.
