Monica Linker Gets 5 Years in Child Porn Case

Monica Linker, 32, of Walla Walla, Washington, was sentenced to five years in federal prison on October 21, 2021, after pleading guilty to Receipt of Child Pornography — her fourth conviction for the same crime. Chief U.S. District Judge Stanley A. Bastian handed down the sentence, which includes a mandatory 10-year term of court supervision upon release. Despite a recommended 13-year sentence from federal prosecutors and a calculated guideline range exceeding 12 years, Judge Bastian exercised discretion to reduce the term to five years — a controversial downward departure given Linker’s relentless criminal pattern.

According to court records, FBI agents operating undercover infiltrated peer-to-peer networks and traced over 80 videos of child pornography directly to Linker’s Walla Walla residence. A search warrant executed at her home yielded all digital devices, which forensic analysis confirmed were loaded with illicit material. Ten months later, FBI agents struck again — this time at Linker’s new residence — seizing additional digital devices containing fresh child pornography. Investigators found evidence not only of continued criminal behavior but also of deliberate efforts to evade detection.

Linker’s digital footprint revealed a disturbing level of technical sophistication: software for encryption, data wiping, peer-to-peer file sharing, and even hacking tools. Among the seized items was a Japanese Anime child pornography comic book and physical disks burned with illegal images. The FBI also found evidence that Linker had collected 25 pairs of young girls’ panties during prior probation searches, alongside anime pornography and a medical textbook on child gynecology — all pointing to a deep-rooted sexual fixation on minors.

At the time of the FBI’s initial online detection, Linker was already a three-time convicted offender under Washington state law and under active supervision by the Washington Department of Corrections. Her repeated violations underscore a complete disregard for the justice system and the trauma inflicted on the youngest victims of sexual exploitation. Each prior probation search had uncovered new red flags — yet she continued to access and distribute child abuse material with alarming persistence.

“The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Washington works closely with our local and federal partners to apprehend the most serious child exploitation offenders in our community,” said U.S. Attorney Vanessa R. Waldref. “I commend the Walla Walla Police Department and the FBI, whose excellent investigation in this case has protected children by keeping a recidivist offender off the streets for years.” Waldref emphasized that child pornography consists of crime-scene photos of abuse that circulate indefinitely, re-victimizing children with every download.

Donald Voiret, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Seattle Division, stated, “Ms. Linker is a repeat offender who has obviously not learned her lesson from her past convictions. Her compulsion to engage in this activity, even after being aware of law enforcement scrutiny, indicates the importance of keeping her away from the children in our communities.” The case was prosecuted under Project Safe Childhood, a DOJ initiative launched in 2006 to combat the rising epidemic of child sexual exploitation across the United States.
