In a shocking turn of events, the body of Ohmer Hockett, a constable from Edwardsville, was discovered in a remote field on the farm of Jerry Sullivan on Horseshoe Lake, just two and a half miles south of Eagle Park, Illinois, on February 5, 1926. The gruesome scene revealed that Hockett had been bludgeoned to death, with his head crushed by a blunt instrument. The killer’s brutality did not stop there, as Hockett’s hands were tied behind his back using wire.
