Nahum Rodriguez-Jaimes, a 48-year-old Lakeland resident, has pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing with the intent to distribute fentanyl, a highly addictive and often deadly synthetic opioid.
Rodriguez-Jaimes, a citizen of Mexico, faces a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment on each count. A sentencing date has not yet been set, and he is subject to deportation upon completion of his sentence.
According to the plea agreement and court records, law enforcement received information that Rodriguez-Jaimes was distributing fentanyl in Plant City. This led to an investigation that uncovered three separate transactions at a commercial business in Plant City, where Rodriguez-Jaimes distributed significant quantities of fentanyl.
On September 28, 2023, Rodriguez-Jaimes distributed 200 fentanyl pills; on October 10, 2023, he distributed 300 fentanyl pills; and on October 19, 2023, he distributed an additional 3 baggies of fentanyl pills. These transactions demonstrate the scope of Rodriguez-Jaimes’ involvement in the illicit fentanyl trade.
The case against Rodriguez-Jaimes was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the Plant City Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Maria Guzman is prosecuting the case, which highlights the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the fentanyl epidemic.
