Jason K. Thompson, 40, nearly killed a woman and then turned on the cops who tried to stop him in Crownpoint, New Mexico, on March 18, 2025. The feds say Thompson choked the unidentified woman during a domestic dispute, and when Navajo Nation Police arrived, he fought back – hard.
Court documents paint a picture of a brutal attack. Thompson allegedly tried to strangle the woman, causing serious injuries. When officers moved in to arrest him, he wrestled a taser away from one of them and used it, intentionally trying to inflict harm.
But it didn’t stop there. Even after being handcuffed and stuffed in a patrol car, Thompson kicked out a window and bolted. Navajo PD chased him down later that night, preventing what could have been an even more violent outcome.
Thompson admitted guilt to assault by strangulation and assault with a deadly weapon. He’s now looking at a decade in a federal prison cell, according to First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and FBI Special Agent in Charge Justin A. Garris. It was a joint effort to get him off the streets, they said.
