New Haven hustler Harry Whitley, 23, took a deal today in Bridgeport federal court, pleading guilty to a charge that could put him away for years. Whitley admitted to packing a firearm while moving weight – essentially, having a gun during a drug deal.
Federal prosecutors haven’t laid out exactly what drugs Whitley was slinging, but the charge itself means he was connected to a drug trafficking operation when he was caught with the weapon. Details are thin on how the feds initially connected Whitley to the gun and the operation, but a guilty plea avoids a trial and a potentially harsher sentence.
Judge Kari Dooley will hand down the sentence at a later date. The law carries a mandatory minimum penalty, meaning Whitley won’t be getting off easy. Expect a significant stretch in a federal penitentiary. This case was handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Connecticut.
