PITTSBURGH – Norman Warren, a 24-year-old from Penn Hills, has been handed down a 21-month prison sentence followed by three years of supervised release for violating federal firearm laws. The ruling comes after Warren was found with a Hi-Point .380 caliber pistol, an offense prohibited to felons under U.S. law.
United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced the sentence imposed by Chief United States District Judge Joy Flowers Conti on Warren. Prosecutors presented evidence that Warren had been convicted of firearms-related crimes in the past, making his possession of a firearm illegal.
The .380 caliber pistol was seized on or about September 4, 2012, marking another victory for federal law enforcement agencies in their ongoing battle against gun crime. Assistant United States Attorney Charles A. Eberle led the prosecution effort on behalf of the government.
U.S. Attorney Hickton praised the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, & Explosives for their diligent work that resulted in Warren’s conviction. The case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a collaborative initiative to prevent gun violence through federal, state, and local partnerships.
Norman Warren now faces his fate, having been sentenced to serve time behind bars for the illegal possession of a firearm. His sentence serves as a stark reminder of the serious consequences for violating federal firearms regulations.
