Odebolt Meth Kingpin Gets 12+ Years

SIOUX CITY, IA – Kevin Schimerowski, 46, of Odebolt, Iowa, is headed to federal prison for more than a decade after admitting his role in a large-scale methamphetamine distribution network. Schimerowski received a 144-month sentence – that’s twelve years and six months – from United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett on December 19, 2013.

The sentence stems from a guilty plea entered on August 28, 2013, to the charge of conspiring to distribute methamphetamine. Federal prosecutors detailed a conspiracy spanning from approximately 2012 through April 2013, during which Schimerowski and his associates pushed more than five grams of *actual* (pure) methamphetamine onto the streets. This wasn’t small-time dealing; the evidence showed Schimerowski directly distributed over five grams of the potent drug to undercover law enforcement operatives on three separate occasions in February 2013 alone.

But the twelve-year term isn’t the full extent of Schimerowski’s legal woes. Judge Bennett also tacked on an additional six months’ imprisonment related to a revocation of probation from a prior federal conviction – another conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, this time involving at least 50 grams. The federal system doesn’t offer parole, meaning Schimerowski will serve every single day of his 150-month sentence.

Beyond prison, Schimerowski faces an eight-year term of supervised release. A $100 special assessment was also imposed, a standard fee levied on federal convictions. Investigators from multiple agencies painstakingly built the case against Schimerowski, demonstrating the collaborative effort required to dismantle these types of drug operations.

The investigation was a multi-agency effort, spearheaded by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, with crucial support from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Denison Police Department, Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, Sac County Sheriff’s Office, and the Iowa Division of Criminalistics Laboratory. Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde prosecuted the case, bringing Schimerowski’s criminal enterprise to a decisive end.
