Oxford Man Gets 13 Years for Grooming Teen

An Oxford man’s descent into darkness culminated in a 156-month federal prison sentence for Attempted Enticement of a Minor to Engage in Illicit Sexual Activities and Receipt of Child Pornography.

Eric Gene Rundle, 44, of Oxford, Iowa, was led away in shackles after a Davenport federal court judge sentenced him to 13 years behind bars for his heinous crimes.

According to court documents, Rundle made the grave mistake of communicating with an undercover law enforcement officer posing as a 15-year-old girl. He made plans to meet the underage girl for sex acts and was subsequently arrested at the designated meeting location.

Rundle’s cell phone was searched upon his arrest, revealing a treasure trove of child sexual abuse material, including images and videos showcasing the exploitation of innocent minors.

Assistant United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal announced the sentence, which will be followed by a seven-year term of supervised release upon Rundle’s completion of his prison term.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the scourge of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

The Iowa City Police Department handled the investigation, which marked a significant victory in the ongoing fight against child exploitation.
