Peru Kidnapping Duo Busted: Cuadros Bravo, Guevara Wintong Indicted

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Edwin Alonso Cuadros Bravo, 54, and Yulisa Alexsandra Guevara Wintong, 49, formerly of Sacramento, were indicted by a grand jury for interstate and international kidnapping and kidnapping conspiracy, U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced today.

According to court documents, in November 2021, Cuadros Bravo and Guevara Wintong abducted their 6-year-old grandchild from Sacramento and took the victim to Peru, ignoring pleas from the mother to return the child to the United States. Cuadros Bravo and Guevara Wintong were initially charged by criminal complaint in February 2022.

It wasn’t until December 2022 that the victim was finally returned to Sacramento, thanks to government intervention. Cuadros Bravo made his first appearance in federal court in Sacramento on April 10, 2024, and was subsequently detained. He remains in custody. Guevara Wintong has yet to appear to answer the charges against her.

The case is a result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Veronica M.A. Alegría is prosecuting the case.

Cuadros Bravo and Guevara Wintong face a maximum statutory penalty of life in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted. However, any sentence would be determined by the court after consideration of applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

The charges against Cuadros Bravo and Guevara Wintong are only allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The indictment is a serious step in the justice process, and we will continue to monitor the case closely.
