A Quad Cities man has been sentenced to seven years in the slammer for possessing a firearm as a felon.
Davenport Police were called to a scene in May 2022 after a gunshot victim was found in a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers found a gunshot wound to the head, several firearms, and a cell phone belonging to 27-year-old Marveon Dashawn Jovan Williams.
Witnesses described a shootout between two different vehicles, and a male matching Williams’ physical description was seen fleeing the crime scene with a firearm.
Video surveillance footage showed Williams changing his clothes in a nearby wooded area, and law enforcement later recovered discarded clothing with DNA belonging to Williams.
According to public court documents, Williams was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison and will be required to serve three years of supervised release after completing his term.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through community-based enforcement and prevention strategies.
United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement, crediting the Davenport Police Department for their investigation.
The Quad Cities community can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Williams will be behind bars for the next seven years.
The Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program is a crucial effort to combat gun violence and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
