NEW YORK, September 12, 1934 – The Morro Castle, the ill-fated ocean liner that burned to the ground off the coast of Asbury Park, New Jersey, on September 8, has yielded another shocking revelation. Chief radio operator George Rogers testified at a Government Inquiry today that his first assistant, George Alagna, and another operator had attempted to instigate discontent on the ship. The motives behind this alleged sabotage remain unclear, but it is certain that Alagna’s actions did not sit well with Captain William Willmott, who Rogers claimed had little trust in the young operator.
