Francisco Ramirez-Duran, a 42-year-old man from Mexico, has been sentenced to 5 months in prison for re-entering the United States illegally after being removed as a felon.
According to court documents, Ramirez-Duran pleaded guilty to one count of illegal re-entry as a felon on August 15, 2014. He admitted to re-entering the United States without permission after being removed from the country on August 19, 2005.
Ramirez-Duran came to the attention of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) on July 6, 2014, after he was arrested in Webster County, Iowa, for fishing without a license. This arrest led to the discovery of his illegal re-entry into the United States.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Fletcher and investigated by HSI and the Enforcement and Removal Office of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Bureau. Ramirez-Duran was sentenced in Sioux City by United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett.
