Roscoe Dealer Gets Nine Years for Drugs & Gun

ROSCOE, IL – XZAVIOR SMITH, 24, is headed to federal prison for nearly nine years after pleading guilty to a drug and gun combo that flooded the streets around Rockford. The feds say Smith was moving both cocaine and fentanyl, and wasn’t shy about packing heat while doing it.

The bust went down in June 2021 after Freeport Police tried to pull Smith over. Instead of complying, Smith floored it, leading cops on a high-speed chase towards Durand, Illinois. The chase hit 113 mph, according to court documents, before Smith ditched the car and ran – leaving a trail of evidence behind.

That evidence included bags stuffed with fentanyl and cocaine, and a loaded Glock 19 pistol with an extended magazine holding 29 rounds. It wasn’t a joyride; Smith was actively engaged in distributing deadly drugs and had the firepower to protect his operation. The Stephenson County Sheriff’s Department joined the chase, as did units from Roscoe and Beloit, Wisconsin, highlighting the multi-agency effort to nail him.

U.S. District Judge Iain D. Johnston handed down the eight-year, ten-month sentence in Rockford this week, sending a clear message about the consequences of mixing drugs and guns. Federal prosecutors pushed for a stiff penalty, citing the danger Smith posed to the community and the seriousness of his crimes.

Acting U.S. Attorney Morris Pasqual and FBI Special Agent-in-Charge Robert W. “Wes” Wheeler, Jr. announced the sentencing, emphasizing the successful collaboration between law enforcement agencies. They didn’t mention rehabilitation, or second chances – just the fact that a dangerous criminal is off the streets.

This case is a stark reminder of the opioid crisis gripping the nation and the lengths criminals will go to profit from addiction. The feds are vowing to continue cracking down on drug trafficking operations and seizing illegal firearms, no matter where they’re found. Smith’s nine-year stretch is a small victory in a much larger war.
