Doctor Peter Zavell of Florence, S.C., has pleaded guilty to filing fraudulent tax returns totaling $244,784 for the year 2000.
Zavell was accused of using the ‘Look Back’ and ‘Look Forward’ programs from Anderson Ark and Associates (AAA) to create fictitious entities and business transactions to eliminate his tax obligations.
The IRS chief emphasized that participants in such schemes will be prosecuted, noting Dr. Zavell’s conviction adds to more than a dozen others ensnared by AAA’s fraudulent tax plots.
As part of the plea deal, charges against Zavell’s wife were dropped. The judge deferred sentencing, with Zavell facing up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The IRS has once again demonstrated its dedication to investigating and prosecuting financial crimes, ensuring public confidence in tax law fairness.
