Grimy Times has learned that a one-night crime spree in Jersey City, New Jersey ended in a 12-year prison sentence for an Essex County woman.
Siobhan Chandler, 21, of Newark, New Jersey, was sentenced to 144 months in prison for her role in a string of robberies and shootings in Jersey City, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Chandler was found guilty of conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery, conspiracy to use and carry a firearm in relation to a crime of violence, attempted Hobbs Act Robbery, Hobbs Act robbery, and using and carrying a firearm in relation to a crime of violence.
The crime spree took place on the evening of November 14, 2023, when Chandler and her co-conspirator, Rodney Williams, targeted a gas station, a store, and a restaurant in Jersey City. During the robberies, Williams pointed a gun at employees and demanded money, while Chandler threatened force and violence.
At one of the locations, Williams discharged his firearm, shooting a cashier in the chest. The cashier handed over money to Williams, who then fled the scene with Chandler. The Jersey City Police Department, under the direction of Public Safety Director James Shea, and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Prosecutor Esther Suarez, led the investigation into the crime spree.
U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger credited the officers involved in the investigation and thanked the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for their assistance. Assistant U.S. Attorney Shontae D. Gray represented the government in the case.
Chandler was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Brian R. Martinotti on May 14, 2024, in Newark federal court. In addition to her prison sentence, Chandler was also sentenced to five years of supervised release.
