Chance Allen Cathey, 36, of Tom, Oklahoma, is facing serious time after admitting he knowingly drove a stolen vehicle across state lines into Arkansas on December 26, 2023. Cathey wasn’t just borrowing a friend’s car; he actively moved the hot ride, pulling in the feds and landing him a federal charge.
According to the indictment, Cathey understood the car was stolen when he crossed into Arkansas. That simple act turned a simple vehicle transfer into a federal offense. The Little River County Sheriff’s Office in Arkansas joined the FBI in building the case.
Cathey entered his guilty plea before Magistrate Judge Gerald L. Jackson in Muskogee. He’s currently locked up while federal investigators dig into his background for a presentence report – a deep dive into his past that will heavily influence his sentence.
The feds are looking for up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. A U.S. District Court Judge will ultimately decide Cathey’s fate, weighing sentencing guidelines and other factors. This isn’t a slap on the wrist – moving stolen property across state lines carries real consequences.
